Caregiver & Family Empowerment

Our Caregiver Empowerment Program provides education and community to Caregivers and family members of individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.

Community & Support

Persons with disabilities are an integral part of the community and provide us with opportunities to learn more about ourselves and the importance of fostering inclusive communities.

Our Caregiver Empowerment program is designed to help and empower caregivers that provide direct care for the community we serve. Our years of experience working closely with caregivers have shown that several families face challenges during initial diagnoses, such as disbelief, denial, confusion, shock, anxiety, uncertainty, and anger.

Many times, these emotions can leave families feeling alone and in despair, while also wanting their loved ones healthy, safe, and secure. The strategies incorporated in our Caregiver Empowerment program are to provide empowerment services that incorporate education and training to address the caregiver’s unique needs and create a safe place where caregivers can share their experiences, challenges, and resources.

Autism Ally encourages peer groups and provides information on how to access resources through our various vehicles and events, such as our annual event, UPLIFT.

Training & Support

OUR PROGRAM CREATES A PLATFORM THAT CREATES PEER-TO-PEER SUPPORT, BY ADDRESSING CAREGIVERS’ UNIQUE NEEDS.

Our services include:

  • Peer to Peer Mentoring Supports – Connecting with other families who can help and give advice regarding the caregiving journey.

  • Caregiver Empowerment Training and Empowerment Services – Services that provide education and training which addresses the caregiver’s unique needs.

  • Individual Education, Training, and Advocacy – Training programs, workshops, and conferences that help the individual develop self-advocacy skills to exercise his or her civil rights. We assist caregivers with programs to build their careers.

Who Benefits?

Caregivers who provide services and support to an individual diagnosed with a disability and is a resident of the state of Maryland and in some cases outside of the state.

How Does It Work?

Autism Ally will organize workshops for families providing direct support for their loved ones with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our UPLIFT sessions are designed to meet such needs and encourage advocacy programs.

The caregiver empowerment program is sponsored partly by donations received from our annual partners and donating families like yours.
